Keynote: Lean ALM: Managing Flow Rather than Disciplines

Today, there is a looming software crisis. The volume of software is increasing, whilst the capacity to deliver it is growing at a much slower rate. This is leading to increased costs and reduced innovation. In response, many organizations are looking to more complex and broader supply chains. As control is eroded, these traditional supply chains become ecosystems where management has to be replaced with visibility and transparency.  Historically, ALM served as the discipline, providing the structure, tools and practices to enable software to be planned, delivered and maintained. But, as software delivery velocity increases, and certainty reduces and ecosystems take control, what is the impact on ALM? Has it stepped up? Or is it still a confusing and out-of-place combination of discipline and tools? In this keynote presentation, West will describe and outline the dirty truths about ALM. He will introduce fresh ideas on the emergence and value of Lean ALM. West will then outline how Lean Thinking concepts are taking hold to transform ALM into a vehicle that modern software delivery organizations can use to meet the challenges of growing demands, complexity and continuous change that will occur during the coming decade.
